Our Mascot: The Phoenix
Even though the Academy of Arts, Careers, and Technology may be a special place, a safe haven for many, we still had longed for some of the privileges that regular public High Schools already have. Certain things for example sports, weren’t things we could organize and commit to because we have no need for them here. Instead we use our dedication and athleticism through competitions such as Skills USA, HOSA, ProStart, NASA Rover, FFA, FBLA and many more. These competitions are how we have shown our athleticism of the mind.
Nonetheless there is one thing that every public High School has that we ourselves were lacking; a mascot. How does the student body’s spirit get represented? How does a school show pride in itself? The student body of 2015 had the exact same thoughts. They had it taken upon themselves to create something that will forever shape the future of this school.
The class of 2015 had petitioned for the creation of a mascot, a mascot that would be truly called a trailblazer. When the vote had taken place, ideas such as dragons, and lions were thrown out, however all of them paled in comparison to the popularity of the phoenix. Once the phoenix was officially our mascot, the graphic design department at our school made quick work to create the official look and the image of our mascot.
This phoenix is more than just a trailblazer, it is a statement of who we are at this school. A statement of eternity, for it the job of the Phoenix to rise from the ashes after death and continue to light the way for a better future. This light will burn bright as we travel the road less traveled on, as well to create our own paths to success:

The Academy of Arts, Careers, and Technology is a place for those who can believe in themselves to do majestic and beautiful things in their future life. This school provides Career and Technical Education in ways that can make anyone a great leader, builder, worker, thinker, helper, teacher, and grower for any and all fields. AACT provides endless opportunities for freshman, so that when they are seniors, they can make that big leap forward. This place is a place of love, work, and play; it provides a safe atmosphere where true learning can take place; an arena for ideologies to peacefully co-inhabit; and a center of friend-making. AACT is a home to all who come here and will forever be as such.

ABOUT
One of AACT’s traditions is the compass ceremony, a gathering of the entire school to welcome the new freshmen, and say goodbye to our seniors. With the moving of the hands on the metal compass that hang above AACT’s common area the students become a tight-knit family, sad to see a class go, but excited to meet the new additions to our school. For the freshmen it is a rite of passage that officially make them vital parts of AACT and for the seniors it serves as their last goodbye to their second home. A hello and a farewell the compass ceremony is AACT’s last and most
impactful gathering of the year.
